Update

14Jun10

So, I thought I would update my blog as its been about a month since I did.

At the moment, I am working on 2 short films in class. The first is an 8 line dialogue about a story close to where we live, or on the Mornington Peninsula. I chose a story that a customer told me about one day while I was working. Although it wasn’t true, and wasn’t in the newspapers, I still liked the idea. So basically, a customer had told me that the police were pulling a dead body out of the creek near my home. I believed him because on the way to work that day, I had seen police and ambulance at the creek and it did appear that they were pulling something out. Ofcourse when I got home, I was told that it wasn’t a body. I think it was actually a trolley. Hmmm…

The second is a short film that I guess we have free reign over. I have some ideas but I’m not quite sure which story I will write. Damien wants us to have 2 characters in the film, and we will need to write a lengthy character description about them. I think its going to be a main assignment for my Film class.

I’m not very good at script writing, but I enjoy doing it. I have a feeling its going to take me a loooong time to write the finished draft. :(

My Film

19May10

This is my completed film. I’m not happy with the quality, but I wanted it over and done with.

Our assignment in class is to place ourselves in an existing film using the  Green Screen technique (Chromakey). We are to change dialogue in the scene to create a different scenario.

The film I have chosen is the 1999 film The Matrix, which was written and directed by Andy and Larry Wachowski. The scene I will be placing myself into is the red pill/blue pill scene. This scene has Morpheus(Laurence Fishburne) offering Neo(Keanu Reeves) the chance to leave his boring life and to join Morpheus in the Matrix. I will be placing myself over Morpheus’ character.

The scene was originally about 4 minutes long, which was way too long. I have cut it down to 61 secs. While cutting down the clip to make a shorter running time, I noticed Neo does not actually say any dialogue. Because of this, I will be offering Keanu Reeves the opportunity to quit acting. I was originally going to make the scene where I am offering Neo a tic-tac and a skittle. But, since there was no conversation between us, I decided to change it.

The Lighting in the scene is minimal. There is only one source of light which is coming from Morpheus’ left.  I see a challenge in the lighting as I will be sitting against the green background, which will leave no room for a light. I have been told I will have to use back lighting in order to have the correct lighting in the scene. Shadows are very harsh and are basically black in some places. There is a green hue to the room, which will be added afterwards in Adobe After Effects.

I will be wearing all black, minimizing the chance of the green background being caught on shoulders and legs.

My filming crew will be Ben Gladstone and Kristy Colbert, with the assistance of Damien Pierce.

I have never done a Green Screen before, so it should be an interesting experience. I have also not used the programs Final Cut Pro and Adobe After Effects.

I will be filming later today at approx. 2:00pm.

The military see him as a traitor. Jake informs the Na’Vi of his original mission, resulting in Neytiri rejecting him.

6. Act Three: Turning Point

7. Resolution
Jake and his allies defeat the military, as well as killing Colonel Miles Quaritch. Jake, his friends, and the Na’Vi remain on Pandora, and send the humans back to Earth. Jake is placed inside his Na’Vi body permanently. Peace is restored to Pandora.

Premise of the film:
We always have a choice between morality and duty in life. We just have to make the decision.
